Cookie Policy

Last Updated: 17 October 2026 · All policies

This policy explains what scrnsvrs.com stores in your browser. It supplements our Privacy Policy. The SCRNSVRS app for Mac uses no cookies and no tracking.

1. The short version

  • The website works without cookies.
  • Small entries can be kept in your browser’s local storage: your answer to the cookie bar and, only from visits before favourites moved into accounts, an old list of favourites. Your answer stays on your device and is never sent to us; the old list is moved into your account the next time you sign in and then removed from your browser.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics and PostHog) are only ever set if you click Allow all. Nothing from Google or PostHog loads before that.

2. What we store

Name Type Purpose Kept for Basis
scrnsvrs-favorites Local storage Only from visits before favourites moved into accounts: the screensavers you marked back then. Nothing new is written to it. When you sign in, the list is added to your account’s favourites and removed from your browser Until you sign in or clear your browser data Strictly necessary for a feature you used (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG)
scrnsvrs-consent-v1 Local storage Remembers your analytics choice (“Allow all” or “Essential only”) so we don’t ask on every page Until you clear your browser data Strictly necessary to respect your choice (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG)
_ga, _ga_<ID> Cookie (Google Analytics 4) Counts visitors and sessions so we can see which pages and screensavers people look at Up to 2 years Your consent (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)
ph_<project key>_posthog Cookie and local storage (PostHog) A random visitor ID and session information, so we can see which pages, screensavers and buttons people use Up to 1 year Your consent (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)
scrnsvrs-utm Session storage The campaign parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, ref) of the link you arrived through, so we can see which post or article brought you Until you close the tab Your consent (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)
scrnsvrs-utm-first Local storage The campaign parameters of the first link you arrived through Until you withdraw consent or clear your browser data Your consent (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)
scrnsvrs-intent Session storage Only when you start an action that needs an account (e.g. a favourite or vote) while signed out: remembers that action so it can finish after you sign in Until it is used, at most 30 minutes, and when you close the tab Strictly necessary for the action you requested (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG)
scrnsvrs-ideas-draft, scrnsvrs-ideas-intent Session storage (only on /submit/, when you have to sign in first) Keeps your idea draft, or the idea you wanted to vote for, while you sign in, so nothing is lost Until you send the idea or close the tab Strictly necessary for the feature you use (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG)
__client_uat, __session, __client_uat_*, __session_* Cookie (Clerk, on scrnsvrs.com) Accounts: whether a sign-in exists (__client_uat, a timestamp; 0 when signed out) and a short-lived sign-in token (__session, about one minute, renewed while you’re signed in) __client_uat up to 1 year, __session until the browser closes Strictly necessary for the sign-in you can use on every page (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG)
__client Cookie (Clerk, on clerk.scrnsvrs.com, only after you sign in) Keeps you signed in on this browser Until you sign out, up to 7 days without use Strictly necessary for the account you requested (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG)

The analytics entries are only set after you click Allow all. Details on Google Analytics are in section 3.4 and on PostHog in section 3.5 of the Privacy Policy. The Clerk cookies are explained in section 3.10.

3. Hosting

Our host, Vercel, delivers the pages and keeps short-lived server logs for security (see the Privacy Policy, section 3.1). It does not set cookies for visitors of this website.

The Mac App Store, Discord and social media profiles we link to are run by other companies. When you follow a link, their own cookie and privacy policies apply. We self-host the App Store badge, so no data goes to Apple when one of our pages loads.

5. How to control it

  • Analytics: click Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and choose Essential only. The Google Analytics and PostHog cookies and stored data are deleted and analytics stops loading.
  • Everything else: delete the site’s data in your browser settings (Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data). The site keeps working; it just asks about cookies again.

6. Changes and contact

We update this policy when the website changes. Questions: hello@scrnsvrs.com.
